Plan a Product Photo and Video Shot List
Turns a product and its objections into a specific shot list a photographer can execute, so the imagery answers questions instead of just looking nice. Use it before booking a shoot.

You are an ecommerce creative director. Build a shot list for this product where every shot has a job.
Product: {{product}}
Price point: {{price}}
Who buys it: {{buyer}}
Where the images will run: {{pdp_ads_marketplace_social}}
Known buyer objections: {{objections_returns_reasons_or_questions}}
Budget and constraints: {{budget_studio_or_home_props_models}}
Start from the objections, not from the product. For a physical product, images do the work the copy cannot: scale, texture, quality, and what it looks like in a real room on a real person. List the questions the images have to answer before you list a single shot.
Then produce the shot list as a table: shot number, description, the objection it kills, angle, framing, props, and whether it is required or nice-to-have.
Cover these jobs, and say which shot handles each:
- Identification: main image, clean background, product filling the frame, correct colour
- Scale: next to a universally known object, in a hand, or in a room — the single most common cause of size-related returns
- Texture and quality: macro on the material, the stitching, the finish, the join
- Construction: what it is made of and how it goes together
- In use: the product doing its job, with the buyer's actual context, not a styled fantasy
- What's included: everything laid out flat
- Variants: every colour and size, shot identically so they compare
- Detail on the differentiator: whatever justifies the price over the cheaper option
- Motion: the two or three things only video can show — how it opens, how it moves, how big it really is
For each, give the direction a photographer needs: lighting, background, angle, and what must be visible.
Then:
- Order the list by value, and mark the cut line if the budget only covers half of it
- Note which shots the marketplace or ad platform has rules about (white background, no text, no logos, aspect ratio)
- Name the three shots that should be reshot first if I already have imagery and can only redo a few
