Matt McGarry's argument is that the standard ways of turning expertise into income — recorded courses, digital products, private communities, done-for-you services — are the wrong default, and that live cohort-based courses beat all of them on the measure that matters: whether students actually get a result. He is explicit that a cohort is not a course with a chat channel attached; the live, time-boxed structure is the mechanism.

He positions it as a beginner-friendly first offer that does not require an audience, testimonials, technical skill or existing authority, while still scaling past seven figures. He reports $2.1 million across six live cohorts over two years and more than 1,200 paying students, with the first launched in January 2024 to an email list of 4,000.
